Ruthie Farrand

The Embellishment Lady

It is the delight of my life to create.  I'm not a great illustrator but I’ll embellish anything. Along the way I discovered that the best part of creating is playing with all the arts and crafts supplies. I plan to bring you reviews and recommendations on the latest new tools, diy projects using homemade supplies, great places to purchase supplies and how to make your own.  We'll look for fun art and craft shows, festivals and galleries, as well as hear from guests about their latest projects.

This creative stuff must be in the genes. My father (aka Jim Zim) was a woodworker and avid gardener. My sister Mary Jane is not only a spectacular gardener but an accomplished floral designer.

Grandma Mickey (short for Effie America) was a prolific quilter and could grow fabulous flowers even on cement. My mother Sally (Aunt Sassy to some) however, practices the most difficult art of all…. patience with the ever-growing art and craft stuff blooming everywhere. Their dining room table has a smooth surface but it hasn’t been seen in years. Although we live miles apart now, I remember watching them create beautiful things that were always shared.  My studio now has graduated from our kitchen table to the garage. It’s a step up in space but a little warm in the muggy Chattanooga, Tennessee heat. I’m somewhat more organized these days but there will never be enough room for all the projects and art forms I love.

Come with me and we'll have a blast playing with our toys (I mean tools) and sharing the fun with the Embellishment Connection community.

Blessings,

Ruthie
